Membership
Each person wanting to become a member of the choir or continue as a
member of the choir must:
- Be committed to the organization.
- Be engaged in such a way in musical production that others will sense
a great passion for our music.
- Demonstrate a level of proficiency and standard of performance as
determined by the director and section leaders.
- Complete a choir registration form and pay necessary enrollment fees.
- Maintain a positive attitude and consistent effort to the organization.
Choir Expectations
- Choir members are expected to be on time.
- Choir members are expected to have excellent attendance. Please
call your section leader if you are unable to attend a rehearsal or
concert.
- Choir members are expected to exhibit proper rehearsal and
performance etiquette.
- During a concert, choir members are always to focus on the main stage activity.
- Please no gum chewing or obnoxious talking.
- Please help those around you (music, etc.) and consider the feelings of others.
- Please do not talk to the sound or stage technicians about problems. Bring your concerns to the director or section leader. The director will address issues.
- Please return all borrowed music in good condition or pay to replace damaged material.
- Please mark borrowed music with a pencil. Never use ink, highlighter, or
felt-tip pen.
- Please sit in your assigned area determined by the director and section leader.
- Please take correction without being defensive.
- Please be respectful of the director, accompanist, and all members of the choir.
- Please celebrate the success of others.
- Please come prepared to do your best musical performance.
Performance Attire - Women
- Black Dress
- Modest make-up. No "attention getting" jewelry, ribbons, flowers, clips,
hair accessories, etc. unless determined by the group
- Conservative hair style
- No perfumes or scented hairspray
Performance Attire - Men
- Black dress pants, white dress shirt, black dress shoes
- Wear dark socks
- No colognes, after shaves/balms, or scented hairsprays
- No attention getting jewelry unless determined by the group
- Conservative hairstyle
Choir Cabinet
The choir cabinet is made up of officers and section leaders, and is responsible for the following areas:
- Scheduling with community education for rehearsal and concert space
- Collecting registration fees
- Maintaining the music library
- Scheduling social events and special happenings throughout the season
- Personnel, attendance, roster update, calling tree
Section Leaders
A section leader is responsible for:
- Taking attendance for section at each rehearsal
- Administrating the calling tree
- Work with director in pin-pointing musical problems within the section
- Schedule and run occasional sectional rehearsals as needed
- Work with director to determine seating arrangement of section
- Identify and communicate with director needs of the section
Your manner of singing is extremely important. Be energetic, enthusiastic and a personal communicator. Remember that people hear with their eyes! Watch the choir director, be alert, and stress diction, and smile!
